I'm just being a bit lazy here. I've been sketching a bit but haven't scanned any of it so I will share a couple more illustrations I drew from my friend's book:

But that will be all. If you want to see the rest you'll have to buy the book.

I will put some other sketches up soon. It is really important to keep sketching without worrying whether what you are doing is perfect or not. Just draw. Draw. Draw. Engage your creative brain!

I'll share a couple of pictures from the latest thing I have been working on. After a few rough starts I believe I am quite pleased with the results:

Some preliminary sketches

I am attempting to illustrate a book a dear friend wrote. So, I have been doing some discovery sketches -- trying to find the dog, the woman, the birds. So, this is what I sketched Friday. Sorry about the blurriness in some of them -- the actual ones aren't blurry. It was the picture taking! And the paper is white -- I'll work on the lighting for the next pictures!

This is Hawk lying on the ground. If you know Hawk you will recognize his body posture.

This is my cat painting for our Humane Society -- I approached it the same I did my dog painting (see last post). Both my cat and dog paintings will be in our local Humane Society's online silent art auction in October.

The one above is from this morning while Megan ate her breakfast. I don't know who the little girl is but I think she is cute.

The one below is a quick sketch I did the other day trying to figure out what to draw for the Humane Society silent art auction.

3 sketches -- cats, a bike and my happy bald girl

I sketched a bunch of cats for a possible watercolor painting I hope to do. It is going to be of . . . . yep. Cats.

My little bald girl reminds me of my Maggie. This little girl loves her bald head because she can shine apples on her head.

And the bike picture is just silly.

Thanks William Steig

After Quentin Blake, William Steig is my most admired illustrator. Steig was an artist, an illustrator, a cartoonist (he was a genius at that). For years he drew cartoons for the New Yorker. The publication still uses his work even though he died in 2003. That's how good his work is!

So, tonight, I looked up some Steig images and copied a couple. I also did an original (very quick) sketch of Steig himself. Here's the sketch:

Picture
I think it looks a lot like him. You'll have to look his picture up to form your own opinion (look for pictures of him in his later years).

I also found out he didn't have a children's book published until he was 61 years old. That is exciting to me. I'm 46. I have plenty of time!

So, I'll share the two pictures I copied -- I only copied parts of them. The first sketch I will show is a copy of his picture called The Stolen Kiss.

Picture
The second is called Grievances. I added some rays to the sun but don't like them much.

I did these sketches over the last couple of days. They are just a bit silly but it shows my style. I enjoy drawing people.
