There is just a couple of weeks of summer left and I haven't painted once that I can remember. My writing has been pretty much stagnant. My drawing has just been. I haven't been creating and I know I need to. We all need to! We've all been created by the Great Creator to be His reflection. That means we need to use our creativity muscle if we want to be content. And if we don't use it, it gets rusty and atrophied just like physical muscles can without use.
Part of my problem is the busyness of summer. My kids are around all the time. It is hard to create on the kitchen table. The other part of the problem is that I have no space dedicated to creating. Last summer I used the room between the garage and house as a studio but that just didn't work this summer.
So I did something about it tonight. I made myself a space in my tiny kitchen. I repurposed the table the microwave sat on. I moved the microwave to the counter. I refashioned the table into a desk for myself. Here it is:
I took a board off the bottom shelf so I could have a place for legs. So far it is working great. We shall see what happens at this humble desk. I am thinking something great is gonna happen!
If you aren't creating regularly make it happen. You need to. Maybe you aren't a painter, writer or artist, but you have been made to create in some way.Think of what you used to do as a child. That might help you find your creative vision. And when you realize what it is, use it.It will benefit you personally. It will benefit your family. It will benefit your world.
Did some sketching while watching one of the Sherlock Holmes movies starring Robert Downy Jr. and Jude Law. I hope they make a third movie in this series. Robert Downy Jr. is one of my absolute favorite actors.....onto the sketching (and by the way my brain felt healthier after I was done sketching):
Check out The Caterpillar, my absolute favorite children's magazine (maybe my favorite magazine of all). It is whimsical and lovely and fun and always makes me smile!
It comes from across the Great Pond from Ireland and Wales.
And the pages above will be featured in the Summer issue AND I drew/painted those pictures!!!
I am so thrilled.
I've not been drawing much of anything the last few weeks and it shows. I cannot emphasize enough how good drawing is for your brain. You don't have to be a great artist for it to be good for you either.
My brain hasn't been the best lately so I need to draw. I want to share a list of reasons why drawing is good for your brain. I got them from the Lederman Studio blog. Check it out to read the whole post. It is good. The entire blue part is from this site. Here is the list:
The act of drawing effects your brain in a way like nothing can. Check out the benefits that drawing has on your brain.
I don't know about you but my brain needs some strengthening. This is definitely something I'm going to get back to doing. You could doodle at work while talking on the phone. You could draw while you eat. It doesn't have to take a long time.
We're having a rainy Monday in my part of the Country. We sure need the rain, but my heart must be thinking of dancing and flowers for this is where my doodling took me today. See below:
Here's my silly sketch from last night. Haven't been doing lots of drawing or writing these days. My oldest child is graduating from high school in about a month, and we're applying for lots of scholarships and also trying to get our yard looking good. So, life is busy.
I submitted my Ruthie and Marcie book to 13 publishers. I've received one reply back so far -- a rejection letter. I believe in the book and have begun to start the second book (called Alice's Revenge). So, my writing has kind of slowed down too with all that is going on in our lives.
But, had to do some sketching. Have no idea what any of it means (if anything at all).
